ABOUT GALLERY SPECTRA

Henrik Gottfrid Starcke, merchant and goldsmith, built the part of the house adjoining Västra långgatan in 1820. The part along Skolgatan has been added in 1899. Several families have lived in the house simultaneously since it was equipped with three kitchens and two entrances. The three stoves are still there to be seen. During the renovation the old room layout was preserved and today there are six rooms to be used for exhibitions, and two workrooms provided for workshops in graphics.

The society arranges a few joint exhibitions a year in which members can participate for free, but also rents out to individual members and third parts.

Famous artists who have exhibited at Spectra are, among others, Fritz Jacobsson, Juhani Palmu, Ligia Podorean Ekström and Juha Tammenpää.

Esa Tiainen and Ville Hautaluoma have run several courses in watercolour and oil painting.

Since 2019 the society has collaborated with Kristinestads Artists in Residency and welcomed artists from different parts of the world in June and August. Galleri Spectra has during these occasions been used as work and exhibition location for different workshops.

EXHIBITIONS

Spectra is a popular location for exhibitions, especially during the summer, but it can also be used for other events, such as private occasions, concerts for smaller audiences, workshops etc. So make sure to book the gallery in good time.
